Tigers Women's Basketball Hosts Tulsa Sunday
Jan 09, 2016 | Women's Basketball
Memphis-Tulsa match-up tips at 1 p.m. (CT) at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Is that a light at the end of the tunnel? That's what the University of Memphis women's basketball team must be thinking as it prepares for its fourth game in a week when it hosts Tulsa Sunday.
The Tigers and Golden Hurricane meet at 1 p.m. (CT) at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The game can be viewed on the web at the American Digital Network (ADN; theamerican.org/watch).
Although the week has been tiring for the Tigers, it also has been a good one with three-consecutive victories. Memphis started the "four-games-in-a-week" stretch with an 83-67 victory over Tulane last Sunday. The Tigers then followed that performance with wins over Houston 74-57 Tuesday and Cincinnati 64-47 Thursday.
On Sunday, Memphis looks to keep its New Year's record perfect, as a win would give the Tigers a 4-0 mark in the 2016 calendar year. The last time Memphis had a longer New Year's win streak was in the 1997-98 campaign. That season, the Tigers won 10 straight to start the 1998 New Year.

Tigers Tidbits/Five Notes To Know
• Memphis looks to go to 4-1 in American Athletic Conference play Sunday with a victory over Tulsa. If successful, it would be the first time the Tigers began conference action with a 4-1 record since 2011-12. That season, Memphis started its Conference USA schedule with a 6-1 record.
• The Memphis-Tulsa series is tied at 6-6. The Golden Hurricane, though, has had the upper hand recently, winning the last three meetings. Tulsa swept both games last season, including a narrow 65-62 victory at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse Feb. 24, 2015. The Tigers' last win in the series was a 66-64 victory at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse Feb. 26, 2012.
• A big reason for the Tigers' recent success is the team's hot-shooting hand. In the last three victories, Memphis shot 51.4 percent from the floor (92-of-179). The Tigers shot a season-best 55.8 percent in their Jan. 5 win over Houston.
• Senior Asianna Fuqua-Bey put her name in the program's record book in last Sunday's victory over Tulane, securing the No. 10 spot on the Tigers' all-time rebounds chart. This Sunday, Fuqua-Bey hopes to hit a milestone by collecting her 700th board. She enters the game with 699 rebounds.
• Sophomore Cheyenne Creighton is seemingly hitting everything she shoots in recent games. The 6-foot-1 forward is shooting a team-best 59.8 percent from the field, which also is second-best in the American Athletic Conference. In league play only (four games), she is hitting 80 percent from the floor (20-of-25).
