Women's Basketball To Compete In Nugget Classic

Memphis travels to Reno to take on Arkansas and either Navy or Nevada this weekend
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team prepares for the Nugget Classic this weekend as it will play Arkansas on Friday afternoon and either Navy or Nevada on Saturday. Tip-off against Arkansas Friday afternoon is slated for 4:30 p.m. PT/6:30 p.m. CT at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nev.

Nevada, the host of the tournament, will play on Friday against Navy. The winner of that game and the winner of Memphis vs. Arkansas will compete in the Championship Game Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PT/6:30 p.m. CT while the loser of each game will play in the Consolation Game at 2:00 p.m. PT/4:00 p.m. CT Saturday.

This will be the 21st meeting against Arkansas all-time for Memphis. The Razorbacks have a 12-8 advantage over the Tigers with the last meeting between the two squads coming in 2013. Arkansas won the match-up by a score of 67-57 on March 21, 2013.

Memphis currently owns a 2-2 overall record with a 1-1 road record and 1-1 home record. This is just the second time in program history that the Tigers will travel to Reno, with the first coming during the 2001 season.

This past week, Cheyenne Creighton was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll after leading the team in the win against Illinois as well as against Kansas. Creighton leads the Tigers with 14.3 points per game through four games. She also leads the Tigers with 7.8 rebounds per contest. Twice this season, Creighton has had a 16-point, nine-rebound performance.

Creighton has scored in double-figures in every game this season and in The American, she ranks 14th in scoring output. She also ranks ninth in rebounding and fourth in field goal percentage.

Against Kansas, senior Taylor Williams recorded a career-high 18 points including four three-pointers. Twice this season Williams has made at least three triples in a game, with the first coming in the home opener against Missouri State. Williams has led the team in scoring in both of their home games this season.

Melissa McFerrin is the head coach of the Memphis Tigers and is currently in her ninth season at the helm. McFerrin has a career record of 192-188 and a Memphis record of 142-128.

A Look At Arkansas
Arkansas travels to Reno with a perfect 4-0 record with wins against Sam Houston State, UL Monroe, South Dakota, and Stetson. This season, the Razorbacks are averaging 78.0 points per game while holding its opponents to just 53.5 points per contest.

The same five players have started in every game for the Razorbacks in Jessica Jackson, Malica Monk, Alecia Cooley, Jailyn Mason, and Bailey Zimmerman. Jackson, Monk, and Cooley are averaging in double-figures for the Razorbacks led by Jackson with 16.5 points per game.

Jimmy Dykes is the head coach of the Razorbacks and is currently in his third season at the helm. Dykes has a head coaching record of 34-32 at Arkansas.

Navy travels to Reno with a 2-2 overall record. The Midshipmen have won the last two match-ups against Hofstra and Iona with setbacks against Wake Forest and No. 13/14 Tennessee on the road.

Two players are averaging in double-figures for the Midshipmen in Taylor Dunham (14.3 points) and Ashanti Kennedy (10.8 points). Both players have started in every game this season for Navy.
