Tigers Begin Five-Game Home Stand With Southeast Missouri

Memphis to hold Teddy Bear Toss during halftime of SEMO game
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The first of five straight home games are on the horizon for the University of Memphis women's basketball team, beginning Friday with a game against Southeast Missouri. Tip-off against the Redhawks is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

At halftime, fans will throw the Teddy Bears and stuffed animals on to the court to be collected and donated to LeBonheur Children's Hospital. The first 100 fans at Elma Roane to show up with a Teddy Bear or stuffed animal receive a custom Memphis Tigers Santa hat.

Memphis (3-6) vs. Southeast Missouri (5-6)

In the only road game during the month of December, Memphis had its first 20+ point scorer against Southern Illinois last Sunday. Instead of just one 20+ point scorer, the Tigers had two in Cheyenne Creighton and Brea Elmore.

Creighton finished with a career-high 22 points while Elmore scored a career-high 21. It was the first game since February 27, 2016 that the Tigers had two, 20+ point scorers.

With her 22 points against SEMO, Creighton continues to lead the Tigers with 14.3 points per game. She also is pulling down a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game after recording a career-high 10, making that the first double-double of her career.

At home this season, senior Taylor Williams is averaging 16.3 points per game with a field goal percentage of just under 50 percent and three-point mark at 45.8 percent. Also while at home Williams leads the team with nine steals and 11 assists. All-time at home under the direction of head coach Melissa McFerrin, Memphis is 83-39.

A Look At Southeast Missouri
Southeast Missouri comes into Friday's game with a 5-6 overall record under the direction of second year head coach Rekha Patterson. The Redhawks are on a one-game skid after dropping a road game to Southern Illinois on December 9.

Wins this season for the Redhawks are against Hannibal LaGrange, Evansville, Alcorn State, Stephens College and Lipscomb and offensively, Southeast Missouri is averaging 76.1 points per game. Olivia Hackmann leads the team in scoring with 15.6 points per game. She and Mandy Madden are each pulling down 6.4 rebounds per game.Â

SEMO is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference and was picked to finish in a tie for fifth in the league. Belmont, with all but three first-place votes, was picked to win the conference.
