NEW YORK - Former Memphis standout Elliot Williams has been named an NBA Developmental League (D-League) All-Star for his performance during the first half of the season for the Santa Cruz Warriors, while DJ Stephens was named to the D-League Dunk Contest roster.
The all-star game, featuring the league's 24 top prospects, will air live on NBA TV at 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, February 13 from Toronto's Ricoh Coliseum.
Williams averages a D-League-best 28.9 points, 5.8 assists (10th-best in the league), and 6.8 rebounds per game, as the Warriors are 12-18 this season, and in third place in the Western Conference Pacific Division.
This is Williams' second consecutive All-Star selection after representing Santa Cruz in the 2015 NBA D-League All-Star game at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, New York. In that game, he finished with 16 points, six assists, five rebounds, and two steals.Â
Williams, who also signed a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this season, is ranked second among the D-League Prospect Watch for call-up-eligible prospects in the NBADL.
He was named the NBA D-League Performer of the Month on Monday, January 25 after averaging 42.0 points on 54.4 percent shooting, and was his second such honor this season - the first coming on December 21. He was also named the D-League Player of the Month in November.
Additionally, former Tiger DJ Stephens, who is playing for the Canton Charge, has been named to the Dunk Contest roster. This season Stephens averages 8.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. His 1.5 blocks per game rank 13th in the D-League, and Stephens is the only player in the top-20 of the league in blocked shots that is shorter than 6-feet, 8-inches tall.
The dunk contest, which features a six-person field, will be held at halftime of the D-League All-Star game.
