Comperry, Moss earn Auburn Invitational All-Tournament Team honors.
AUBURN, Ala. – University of Memphis senior Catlin Lilly recorded her second double-double of the season, and Regan Comperry added a match-high 25 assists, but the Tigers dropped a 3-0 decision to Miami, Ohio, in both teams' final match of the 2016 Auburn Invitation Saturday.
The RedHawks won the match by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-15. The win gave Miami the Auburn Invitational title with a perfect 3-0 record in the two-day tournament. Memphis went 1-2 in the tournament.
With Saturday's setback, Memphis' record fell to 5-4. Miami improved to 6-4.
Lilly posted her double-double with a match-best 11 kills and 10 digs. Comperry nearly had her second double-double in as many matches with nine digs to go along with her 25 assists. Michaella Moss and McKenzie Hayes each had 13 digs, and Summer Morgan recorded seven kills.
Comperry and Moss were named to the Auburn Invitational All-Tournament Team. It was the second-straight week Moss earned tournament honors.
In this weekend's three matches, Comperry totaled 85 assists, 24 digs, four kills, four service aces and four blocks from her setter position. Moss, who played at libero for only the second weekend of her college career, collected 52 digs. She has 110 digs the last two weekends (six matches) for an 18.3 per-match average.
The opening set was close throughout with nine ties and four lead changes. The largest advantage of the set was three points. The first set was tied at 11-all, but an 8-5 RedHawks run put Miami ahead 19-16. Memphis got as close as two points, but no closer the remainder of the set.
Like the first set, Memphis stayed close early, tying the score at 11-all on the strength of three Lilly kills. The Tigers took a 12-11 on a Tai Bierria kill, but Miami responded with a 9-0 spurt to take a 20-12 lead and control of the set. The RedHawks won the second set 25-18.
In the final set, Miami broke an 8-all tie and then built an 18-11 advantage before posting the 25-15 win.
