Women's Basketball Hosts Successful Heels & Hoop Gala Saturday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Saturday evening, the Memphis women's basketball team hosted the ninth annual Heels & Hoops Gala at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn.

The event Saturday was sponsored by Sedgwick, Dave North, and Fred and Charlotte Hodges. The chair for the event was Elizabeth Duncan. The featured DJ for the evening was DJ Terrence and the emcee of the festivities was Doc Holliday.

The women's basketball team raised over $70,000 in proceeds from the evening. The event was highlighted with a special performance by the women's basketball team as well as individual introductions, a live auction, a silent auction, and dancing.

The Heels & Hoops Gala was created in 2010 by Gigi Wiertelak, Sandy Lenoir, and the late Barbara Bronze as a way to raise money for the Tigers women's basketball program. In the nine years of existence, Heels & Hoops has raised nearly $500,000. In the summer of 2016, Memphis had its entire trip to Spain paid for from the fundraising efforts of Heels & Hoops.
