Tigers Fall to No. 19 Vanderbilt in Hoops for St. Jude Tip-Off Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball trailed by just nine points to No. 19 Vanderbilt after three quarters in the Hoops for St. Jude Tip-Off Classic on Monday afternoon at FedEx Forum, but the nationally ranked Commodores pulled away to take the exhibition victory, 104-68.
The Tigers fell behind by 16 in the first quarter but battled fiercely, winning both the second and third quarter by a combined 43-34 score before a 41-point onslaught in the fourth quarter gave Vanderbilt the victory.
Tamya Smith had 12 points, and Jordan Hunter added 11. Brooklyn Alexander posted nine points and nine rebounds, both of which would have been career highs.
2025 AP All-American Mikayla Blakes dazzled for Vanderbilt, posting 40 points behind 5-of-10 three-point shooting.
Memphis used turnovers to fuel its comeback, forcing 10 in the second quarter and shooting 52.6% on the other end. Their aggression after half-time led to 18 rebounds in the third frame compared to just six from Vanderbilt.
The Tigers shot 51% on two-pointers but couldn't connect on a single one of their 17 three-point attempts. They will open the regular season next Monday, November 3, against Arkansas – Pine Bluff at Elma Roane Fieldhouse at 11:00 a.m.
