Memphis extends winning streak to five games
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team extended its winning streak to five games in a row after defeating Tennessee State by a score of 6-1 Wednesday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn. Memphis improves to 12-5 on the year with the UofM Softball Tournament coming up this weekend.

The teams exchanged scoreless frames through the first two innings before the bats came alive for Memphis in the third. The visiting Tigers ultimately scored five runs on four hits while capitalizing on four Tennessee State errors to take a commanding lead.

Memphis added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning before Tennessee State attempted a two-out rally in the seventh. Molly Smith's 13th strikeout of the game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh ended TSU's chances of a comeback. Smith continued her dominance in the circle throughout the entirety of the contest while improving to 7-2 overall. Â Â

Kyler Trosclair Klatt / SS / Senior / Houma, La.
Trosclair Klatt extended her hitting streak to nine games with a 2-for-4 effort against the Tigers. It was her ninth multi-hit contest of the 2018 season. She also scored a run and drove in a run for Memphis.

Delaney Smith / OF / Freshman / Dayton, Tenn.
Smith finished the game going 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. She also recorded her first collegiate double in the third inning. It was Smith's sixth multi-hit game of the season and she extended her hitting streak to six games.

Molly Smith / P / Senior / Yamhill, Ore.
Smith improved to 7-2 on the year in 7.0 innings pitched for the Tigers. She finished with 13 strikeouts and allowed just three hits against Tennessee State. Smith now has four games with at least 10 strikeouts hurled and a season ERA of 1.01.

Next Up For The Tigers
Memphis returns home to host the second of three tournaments this weekend. The Tigers welcome five schools to the UofM Softball Tournament and Memphis begins play against Mississippi Valley State at 5:30 p.m. Friday evening.

- Top 3 – After two scoreless innings, the Memphis bats put together four hits to score five runs in the third. The inning started with a double down the left field line by Delaney Smith. With runners in scoring position, Kyler Trosclair Klatt drove in the first two runs with a single through the right side. A combination of throwing errors and a hit by Addison Maxwell led to three more runs crossing the plate. (5 runs, 4 hits, 4 errors, 3 left on base)
- Top 6 – Delaney Smith led the inning off with a single to the shortstop and advanced to third on a stolen base and wild pitch. With no outs, Jessie Lamb scored Smith with a ground out to the third baseman. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
