Tigers Welcome Five Teams For UofM Softball Tournament

Memphis is scheduled to play four games, including two on Friday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team hosts the second of three home tournaments this weekend. The UofM Softball Tournament will kick off with games throughout the day on Friday, with the Tigers playing two games at 3:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Tigers will play a total of four times over the course of the weekend with games against Mississippi Valley State, Butler, Bowling Green, and Indiana State.

Quick Hitters
- Having defeated Tennessee State earlier in the week, Memphis enters the weekend with a 12-5 record this season, having won eight of their last nine games and last five straight.
- Kyler Trosclair Klatt headlines the Memphis offense with a batting average of .450 and 27 hits, including a career-high seven triples. She sits two shy of the Memphis single-season record of nine triples, set by Lindsay Crowdus last season.
- Memphis pitchers continue to light up the strike zone. The Tigers pitching corps has combined for 103 strikeouts, led by Molly Smith's 72 K's in 12 appearances.
- The Tigers are electric on the base paths, getting away with 34 steals to-date, including a team-high 15 from freshman Delaney Smith. Memphis has only given up 13 steals to its opponents.
- Memphis freshmen are playing like seasoned veterans. Pitcher Mariah Nichols has an ERA of 0.99 with 26 strikeouts in nine appearances, and hitters Delaney Smith and Baylee Smith have combined for 34 hits with a combined batting average of .405.
- After having two career games of 10-plus strikeouts prior to this season, Molly Smith has four such instances this season, including a career-high 15 against Ball State.
- With a record of 2-11, Mississippi Valley State has two hitters with 10-plus hits this season, led by Jodeci Afoa-Tuia's 11.
- Four different Lady Devilettes have blasted a home run in 2018.
- Through 17 games, Bowling Green carries an 11-6 overall record and has recorded 154 hits, capped by three players with 20-plus hits individually.
- The Falcon pitching staff has held opponent batters to hitting only .222 on the year.
- Butler outfielder Jenna Foreman leads the 4-10 Bulldogs with a batting average of .412 and 21 hits.
- Bulldog pitcher Alyssa Graves has hurled in seven games, striking out 39 batters in 41.2 innings of work.
- The Sycamores come into the weekend with a 9-6 overall record. Indiana State's offense has seven hitters that have recorded 10-plus hits.
- The Sycamores also have two batters with 10-plus RBIs, led by Rebecca Gibbs' 15.
- Though Memphis will not play them this weekend, Tennessee State will also be participating in the tournament.
- The University of Memphis previously played Tennessee State on Wednesday, winning by way of a 6-1 final score.
