Softball Sweeps To Open UofM Softball Tournament

Memphis extends winning streak to seven games
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team extended its winning streak to seven games with a sweep of Mississippi Valley State and Butler Friday afternoon. Memphis won game one against the Lady Devilettes by a score of 12-1 and game two against the Bulldogs by a 13-0 margin. The Tigers improve to 14-5 on the year.

Memphis finished the day with three innings of at least five runs scored or more and 29 total hits. The Tigers have now recorded double-digit hits in five out of the last six games.

Seven runs in the bottom of the first inning against Mississippi Valley State gave freshman pitcher Mariah Nichols a cushion when she went back out in the circle. Nichols pitched a complete game for the Tigers and finished with a career-high 10 strikeouts as she improved to 5-2 on the year.

Five runs in the second and third inning against Butler once again gave Memphis a cushion both offensively and defensively. In the circle for Memphis, Molly Smith hurled her second no-hitter of the season with nine strikeouts.

Notable Tidbits
- Kyler Trosclair Klatt went 6-for-6 at the plate with five runs scored and four RBIs. She has now extended her hitting streak to 11 games and has upped her batting average to a team-high .500.
- Mariah Nichols recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts in the win over Mississippi Valley State.
- Molly Smith's no-hitter was her second no-no of the season and third she has been a part of. Smith has lowered her ERA to 0.95.
- Baylee Smith went 6-for-7 at the plate today with three runs and five RBIs. She also recorded three walks for Memphis and has improved her season batting average to .477.
- Addison Maxwell recorded her first triple of the season against Butler. She finished with five RBIs.
- The Tigers stole eight bases on the day finished with five multi-base hits on the day. Ashley Threatt led Memphis in multi-base hits with a double in each contest.
- Both games featured four multi-hit Tigers. Trosclair Klatt's four hit performance against Butler was a season-high.

- Bottom 1 – Memphis capitalized and scored early and often in the bottom half of the first inning. The first seven batters reached base safely and accounted for four hits, a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. Two more singles in the inning by Kyler Trosclair Klatt and Baylee Smith put Memphis at six total hits in the inning and seven runs scored. (7 runs, 6 hits, 1 error, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 3 – Alexis Castleman led the inning off with a walk, and although she got caught stealing later in the inning, she ignited a two-run, two-hit inning by the Tigers. Baylee Smith (single through the right side) and Addison Maxwell (sacrifice fly) recorded RBIs in the inning. (2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
- Top 4 – Mississippi Valley State led the inning off with a single to the pitcher. That runner came around to score on a walk and an infield single to break up the shutout. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 4 – Memphis made up for giving up a run in the top half of the inning with three runs scored in the bottom of the fourth. Four straight singles by Ashley Threatt, Delaney Smith, Ashten Graves, and Brooke Lee brought in the first run of the inning. A ground out and a single by Trosclair Klatt brought in two more to give Memphis a 12-1 lead. (3 runs, 5 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
Memphis 13, Butler 0
- Bottom 2 – With two outs, Memphis loaded the bases for Addison Maxwell. Maxwell delivered her first triple of the season to up the Memphis lead to 4-0 over the Bulldogs. The Tigers first scored Jessie Lamb on a single up the middle by Trosclair Klatt. (5 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 3 – Memphis, with two outs, recorded back-to-back singles by Brooke Lee and Lamb to put a pair of runners on base. Singles by Trosclair Klatt and Baylee Smith scored three runs before a double to center field by Threatt drove in two more. (5 runs, 6 hits, 1 error, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 4 – Brooke Lee led the inning off with a double to left center. She scored after a ground out and a wild pitch. Back-to-back singles by Erin Parker and Trosclair Klatt combined with a double to right center by Baylee Smith led to two more runs crossing the plate. (3 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
