MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a season-opening win less than two weeks ago, the University of Memphis women's golf team is back in competition, participating in the 16-team Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman University Golf Course Friday thru Sunday. The course, located in Greenville, South Carolina, will play at 6,278 yards and is a par 72 course.
This is the second straight season Memphis has been in the field of the Lady Paladin Invitational. The Lady Tigers finished fifth in last year's event with three players in the top 20, led by Michaela Fletcher's eighth-place finish.
Senior Sydney Colwill finished just outside the top 10 last year, firing a third round 70 to move to a tie for 12that 219. The senior won her first tournament of this fall season at the Payne Stewart Memorial on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff. Colwill, Fletcher and fellow senior Madison Thomas lead the Memphis contingent in Greenville this week in a return to the Furman course.
Junior Abby Herrmann and freshman Ana Dawson round out the Memphis entries in this week's field. Dawson finished tied for fourth in her first collegiate event earlier this month, firing a 214 for her first career top five finish. Dawson competed as an individual in that opening event, but will have a chance to count as one of the four team scorers this tournament as part of the team entry.
The three-day event begins Friday with 9 am tee-times. Memphis will be paired with players from Kansas State and Tulsa and will start off the 10thtee at 9:45 am (ET). Other teams in the field include Augusta University, Coastal Carolina, Daytona State, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, James Madison, Kennesaw State, North Florida, Old Dominion, Texas Tech, Kansas and USF. Live scoring will be available at www.BirdieFire.com.
