Memphis has four games remaining on its regular season schedule, two road games and two home games. Wednesday's game at Temple and Saturday's home contest against USF mark the only regular season meeting between the teams this season. Memphis has a 1-1 record against its final two opponents this season in UCF and SMU.
Junior forward Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu continues to lead the Tigers after posting back-to-back double-doubles last week. For her efforts in Memphis' games against Wichita State and ECU, Fankam Mendjiadeu earned another spot on the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll. She has 11 double-doubles this season, including six in AAC play.
Against ECU, freshman guard Madison Griggs hit her 70th triple of the season, tying the school record set by Alex Winchell during the 2009-10 season. She is currently eight three-pointers shy of matching the AAC freshman record set by UConn's Katie Lou Samuelson.
Also against the Pirates, junior forward Alana Davis put together one of her best all-around games this season. The Augusta, Ga. native put up a team-high 16 points with a season-best nine rebounds for Memphis. Davis is 16 rebounds shy of eclipsing 500 in her career and 28 points shy of 800 through just under three seasons at Memphis.
The Memphis-Temple series has existed just since the start of AAC play in 2013. Wednesday is the 12th meeting between the Tigers and the Owls, with Temple holding an 8-3 all-time advantage. The series between these two squads has been exceptionally competitive as three of the 11 games have gone into overtime.
In 2016, Memphis edged out Temple by a score of 100-97 in a five-overtime affair. Last season in the first round of the AAC Championship, Memphis was trailing Temple by 19 points in the start of the fourth quarter before rallying to defeat the Owls by a 59-58 margin. Memphis has won two of the last three meetings against Temple.
A Look At The Owls
Temple enters into Wednesday's matinee with a 14-10 overall record and 6-5 mark in AAC play. Two of Temple's five conference setbacks are to Wichita State, a team Memphis defeated on the road on Feb. 12. Most recently, Temple is coming off of a 76-75 victory at home against Houston.
The Owls are led by Mia Davis, who has posted a conference-leading 14 double-doubles this season. Davis is second to Fankam Mendjiadeu in conference double-doubles with five. Her scoring average of 18.9 points per game ranks third and rebounding average of 10.4 rebounds per game is first overall in the AAC.
Temple has three players in total averaging double figures. In addition to Davis, Ashley Jones averages 16.7 points per game while Marissa Mackins scores 13.8 points per game.
Tonya Cardoza is in her 12th season at the helm of the Temple program. As the all-time winningest women's basketball coach in Temple history, Cardoza has accumulated 225 wins.
