Memphis finishes Easton Crimson Classic with win over North Carolina

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Memphis softball gets their first win of the year 5-4 against North Carolina.
Mariah Nichols got her second start this weekend in the circle for the Tigers. Nichols threw a complete game, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
After Gracie Morton and Baylee Smith singled to start the first inning Brady Rowland was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kendall Lee then walked to get the Tigers the first run of the game. The Tigers would add one more in the inning on a Sam Ibison RBI ground out to second. Meagan Chism started the second inning with a leadoff triple. Then, Sara Ann Davidson hit a blast of a homerun over dead centerfield, to extend the Tigers lead to 4-0.
The Tar Heels would get all four runs back in the bottom of the second inning including a Destiny Middleton single that scored Kiannah Pierce to make it 4-3. Then, Kayla Baptista tied the game with a double through the left side. The Tigers retook the lead in the top of the third. Gracie Morton singled up the middle to score Aylssa Dean making it 5-4.

The Tigers will have their home opener next Saturday in a doubleheader against the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Tigers Softball Complex on South Campus.
