Tigers open at home with two losses to No. 12 Louisiana

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis started the home portion of it's schedule with a pair of losses to No. 12 Louisiana, 7-2 and 9-0. The Tigers have faced a ranked opponent in eight of the 11 games.
GAME 1
Freshman Olivia Johnson got her first start of the 2021 season for the Tigers. The Tigers and Cajuns traded zeros for the first two innings. Louisiana then put up four runs in the third inning, including a two-run home run by first baseman Karly Heath.
The Tigers were able to get two back in the bottom of the fourth. Baylee Smith scored on a throwing error by catcher Bailey Curry, while Kendall Lee scored on a RBI single by Olivia Johnson. The Cajuns added three more runs in the seventh, as they won 7-2
GAME 2
Chyanne Ellett got the start in the circle for game two. Zoey LeCompte and Mariah Nichols also made appearances in the circle for the Tigers. Louisiana got off to a hot start, scoring seven runs in the first inning, including a home run by Frankie Izard. The Cajuns added two more runs in the third. The Tigers finished the game with just three hits.
Memphis fell to 1-10 while Louisiana improved to 12-4.

The Tigers will finish out their three-game series against No. 12 Louisiana Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. at the Memphis Softball Complex.
