Softball Heads Back to the Beach for FGCU Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– After opening the season at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Mexico, the Tiger softball team will make their way south again, this time to Fort Meyers, Fla. to take part in the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational.
Memphis (2-3) opened the 2022 season with a statement win over Rutgers; the Tigers, after being down 3-0 in the bottom of the 5thinning, would rally for six runs in the bottom half of the 5th, which included the team's first homerun of the season from Camryn Wineinger, to take the 6-3 win.
The Tigers would also collect a win over Long Beach State on Friday morning before taking then 8th ranked Arkansas to extra innings.
After the first weekend of play, the trio of Wineinger, Kendall Lee and Alexis Dale are leading the team with a .300 batting average or better while Wineinger, Dale and Gracie Morton all collected five or more hits in the team's opening games. Both Wineinger and Lee were named to the All-Tournament Team following their performances last weekend.
In the pitcher's circle, Hallie Siems, Mikayla Hoschak and Jenna Gibson all made three appearances each this past weekend while combining for 10 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.65 over the five games.
Memphis will face-off with Austin Peay (4-1), Belmont (0-0), Boston College (3-2) and FGCU (2-2) over the course of Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
