Softball Continues Home Stand with UAPB, UofM Tournament

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– The Memphis softball team will continue their nearly month-long home stand this week when they welcome Arkansas-Pine Bluff for a single game on Tuesday before hosting their second tournament of the month with the UofM Softball Tournament.
The Tigers (7-12) come into the week off a 2-3 weekend against tough teams in Butler, Iowa, IUPUI, Indiana State and UT-Martin. Gracie Morton had quite the weekend going 8-17 from the plate while scoring eight runs. Along with Morton, Kendall Lee and Taylor Smrt gave pitchers troubles this weekend, hitting above .300 for the combined tournament while Smrt led the team with five RBI.
Kailey Hilderbrand had an impressive stat line for the Blues City Classic, going 6.2 innings with a 0.00 ERA and only one extra base hit allowed. She also picked up her first win of the season against Indiana State. Hallie Siems picked up the other win this weekend along with a team leading eight strikeouts in three appearances.
For the season, Morton leads the team with a .412 BA with Camryn Wineinger, Taylor Smrt and Kendall Lee not far behind her, all batting .300 or better. Lee, Wineinger and Aliana Zavala all have a homerun recorded for the season while the duo of Wineinger and Lee are leading the team with a combined 21 RBI.
In the pitcher's circle, Hallie Siems and Mikayla Hoschak have been the go-to's for the Tigers with 13 appearances each. Siems currently leads the group with three wins while Kailey Hilderbrand, Zoey LeCompte, Mikayla Hoschak and Jenna Gibson have all recorded a win this season.
Memphis kicks off the week hosting Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-13) on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. The Lady Lions come in to the game on a nine game losing skid after dropping four games at the UCA Adam Brown Tournament. Alyssa Wesley, Zharia Richardson and Samaria Jackson lead the team with six hits each while Jackson and Kaitlyn Neely both have one homerun recorded this season.
The Tigers will host Central Arkansas (10-7), Southeastern Louisiana (13-6), No. 11 Oklahoma State (12-5) and South Dakota (12-3) over the course of Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the UofM Tournament. All games will be played at the Tigers Softball Complex.
