Tigers Host Central Arkansas, Head to Wichita State

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-Â The Memphis Tiger softball team hold another busy week ahead of them, welcoming the Bears of Central Arkansas to town before hitting the road to Kansas to take on the Shockers of Wichita State this weekend.

Memphis (16-28, 2-10 AAC) picked up another conference win this past weekend when they scored early and often against Tulsa. In the second game of the series, Memphis would score off a bases-clearing triple from Camryn Wineinger, a sacrifice fly from Aliana Zavala, a squeeze play from Alyssa Dean and Kendall Lee reaching on an error that allowed Dafne Mercado to score would give the Tigers an early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

This past weekend, Gracie Morton led the team at the plate going 6-10 with an extra base hit while Wineinger picked up three hits with three runs scored and a team-best three RBI. In the pitcher's circle, Mikayla Hoschak picked up her second save of the season while making two appearances in three innings of work. Hallie Siems and Kailey Hilderbrand both put in work this weekend, combining for 10 of the team's 12 strikeouts.

Central Arkansas (25-15, 10-5 ASUN) is currently on a six-game winning streak that was extended this past weekend when the Bears swept Eastern Kentucky and outscoring them 20-8 over the three-game series.

For the season, Jenna Wildeman leads the team with a .411 batting average and 53 hits while four other UCA players are hitting above the .300 mark. Pitching has been a high-point for Central Arkansas this season; the duo of Jordan Johnson and Kayla Beaver have picked up 24 of the team's wins and struck out over 200 batters in the process.Â

Wichita State (24-13, 7-2 AAC) continues to find themselves among the top teams in the American Athletic Conference. They currently sit in second place after sweeping Houston this past weekend.

Hitting has been a strong point for the Shockers this season; Addison Barnard leads the team with 18 homeruns this season. She sits atop of the AAC and is second in the nation. Neleigh Herring and Zoe Jones are right behind her, tied for the third spot in total homeruns this season with 10 each.

Along with their power hitters, WSU's Sydney McKinney leads the conference with a .472 batting average and 58 hits.

Wichita State will play host to Kansas on Wednesday before the Tigers come to town.
