Late Lion Runs Down Tigers in Final Non-Conference Game of Season

FLORENCE, Ala. – Looking to punch a win in their final non-conference game of the season, the Tigers traveled to Florence to take on the Lions of North Alabama. While Memphis held with UNA for most of the game, a five-run fifth inning from the Lions would boost them to a 6-0 win over the Tigers.

Following today's games, Memphis moves to 16-34 overall.

MEMPHIS: 0, NORTH ALABAMA: 6
How it happened:

After UNA took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Memphis would baserunners in Taylor Smrt and Hannah Bassham in the second and third innings, respectively, after base-hits to the outfield.
The Lions would score five in the bottom of the fifth inning off seven hits to extend their lead out to 6-0.
Alyssa Dean would open the top of the sixth inning with a single to second base to help jumpstart the Tiger offense.
After Kendall Lee reached on a fielder's choice and Camryn Wineinger got to first off a quick hit to the pitcher's circle, the Tigers got their second runner in scoring position. But, North Alabama's defense held steady as they stranded both runners.
With one out in the top of the seventh, Linsey Hargis singled to left-center field. She would advance on a groundout from Zoe Adebayo, but the pitching of UNA's Megan Warhust struck out the final batter to secure the Lions the 6-0 win.

Notables:

Five different Tigers recorded hits today while Alyssa Dean drew a walk to reach base twice.
Mikayla Hoschak got the start today holding the Lions to just one walk and two runs over four innings of work. Jenna Gibson and Hallie Siems both made appearances today.

UP NEXT

Memphis will round-out regular season play next weekend when they host the Bulls of South Florida. Game times are scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday. Coverage of Sunday's game can be found on ESPN+.
The Tigers will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday afternoon and honor Ryleigh Aungst, Hannah Bassham, Kailey Hilderbrand, Anna Grace Magee and Gracie Morton prior to first pitch.
