Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The University of Memphis cross country team is back in action on Friday morning in Tuscaloosa, Ala., competing at the Crimson Cross Country Classic at the Harry Pritchett Running Course.
The men's 8K race will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the women's 6K race to follow, scheduled for 9:20 a.m. The Tiger men come into the weekend ranked No. 14 in the NCAA South Region. You can follow the meet with live results and on our official Twitter page.
"We're very excited to compete at this year's Crimson Classic meet," Memphis junior Vincent Chenier said. "[Harry Pritchett Running Park] is a beautiful running course and there will be a loaded field. The goals this weekend on the men's side are to mix it up with other ranked teams in the South Region as well as have our one-through-five gap as tight as possible."
Chenier has paced the Tiger men in all three meets this season. The junior from Timmins, Ontario, Canada turned in a 12th-place finish at the season-opening City Auto Memphis Twilight Classic, followed by a 24th-place finish (PR) at the Southern Showcase on Sept. 15 and a top-60 finish at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic last time out (Sept. 30).
On the women's side, senior Chloe Figgins has led the Tigers in the first three meets this season. Figgins finished third at the Memphis Twilight Classic in personal-best time, following that up with a 24th-place finish at the Southern Showcase in personal-best time once again. Last time out, the St. Charles, Mo., native finished 44th in a field of 325 runners at the Live in Lou Classic.
"As we move towards the championship part of our season, the women's team is excited to see our hard training play out," Figgins said. "This weekend, we want to move up as a team and go into the conference meet with confidence. The Crimson Classic is a great opportunity to see a lot of the South Regional competition that we will be racing in a few weeks."
Competing teams at the Crimson Classic include: Alabama, Auburn, Belmont, Central Arkansas, Clemson, Eastern Kentucky, Florida State, FGCU, FIU, Georgia, Kentucky, Little Rock, Memphis, Meridian CC, Miami (FL), Middle Tennessee State, UL-Monroe, New Orleans, Samford, Sam Houston, South Alabama, Southern Utah, Tennessee, and Troy.
