MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team took the series sweep over UAB after defeating the Blazers, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers (8-13, 4-5 AAC) continue their win streak while recording their fourth American Athletic Conference win.

Memphis took the first two sets in dominating fashion with scores of 25-9 and 25-19. Memphis came back from a deficit to finish off the Blazers in set three, 25-23.

"We had a really good weekend taking two matches against a good UAB team," head coach Sean Burdette remarked. "We had to fight hard last night and today. Overall, I'm really pleased with the performance and contribution from everyone. Our setters were able to place the ball and put our hitters in a position to hit. One of the biggest things that stands out numbers wise is how well we served the ball this weekend."

Memphis 3, UAB 1

Memphis got off to a quick start, opening set one on a 10-5 run. The Tigers were aided in their run by kills from Autumn Flynn and Jordan Heatherly along with multiple attacking errors by the Blazers. The Tigers pushed ahead, taking a commanding lead into the media timeout.
The Tigers put together an 11-0 run later in the set. Rylee Busse added three service aces during the run along with kills from Tabytha Toelke, Bednarek and Heatherly. Memphis went on to take set one, 25-9.
Memphis hit a .387 clip with 14 kills, 17 digs and three service aces in the set.
The Tigers and the Blazers opened set two exchanging points back and forth, neither side able to put together significant runs.
Memphis went on an 8-3 run midway through the second set. Busse helped during the run with three aces, along with Reilly Briggs, who added two kills and a block assist.
The Tigers closed out the second set, 25-19, after hitting a .429 clip, 14 kills and five aces.
Memphis and UAB opened set three fighting back and forth for points. The Tigers held a slight advantage after a 3-0 run with kills from Madison Rice-Locket and Heatherly along with a block from Bednarek and Rice-Locket.
The Blazers began climbing back late in the set going on a 9-1 run, taking the lead and forcing two Tiger timeouts. UAB capitalized off Memphis errors both at the net and at the service line.
The Tigers came back to take the third and final set, 25-23, after going on a 5-1 run, with Toelke putting the final nail in the sweep over UAB.

Notables

Heatherly recorded a double-double with 14 assists and 12 digs. In addition, she recorded a .438 clip with eight kills.
Catalina Martinez recorded a double-double with 23 assists and 12 digs.
Three Tigers tallied eight kills in the match: Bednarek, Rice-Locket and Heatherly.
Autumn Flynn hit .857 in the match with six kills on seven attempts.
Three Tigers tallied double-digit digs: Martinez (12), Heatherly (1) and Toelke (10).
