Tigers Continue Conference Play at East Carolina

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team takes to the road Thursday to face East Carolina as it hits the midway point of American Athletic Conference play.
The Tigers (8-13, 4-5 AAC) currently boast a three-match win streak after defeating Tulane and sweeping UAB in back-to-back weekends.
"After a two-week home stand, we are back on the road with back-to-back matches against a very good ECU team. We are looking to build off a good weekend series last week against UAB," head coach Sean Burdette shared. "We are looking forward to a very physical matchup as they are a very balanced team with good attackers and blockers. We will have to play clean offensively and defensively and serve well."
ECU (16-4, 7-2) have proved to be a formidable opponent in the east division of the AAC. The Pirates are currently leading the division and hold a four-match win streak after knocking off Tulane and North Texas, followed by a series sweep of Temple. ECU is tops in the AAC in hitting percentage with a .250 clip while holding its opponents to a .144 percentage.
The Pirates are averaging 12.7 kills per set and rank second in the league with 2.5 blocks per set. They are led offensively by Angeles Alderete with 212 kills and 3.45 points per set. Defensively, Carlia Northcross paces the team with a conference-best 88 blocks and 1.26 blocks per set.
Memphis swept its weekend against UAB taking the first match, 3-1, followed by a 3-0 victory on Saturday.
The Tigers are averaging 11.9 kills per set. Four Tigers have tallied 100 or more kills on the season with Tabytha Toelke leading the team (163). She is followed by Clara Bednarek with 149, Madison Rice-Locket with 119 and Autumn Flynn with 118.
Rylee Busse currently tops the AAC with 34 aces on the season. Abigail Schlueter leads Memphis with 3.41 digs per set, while Toelke is at 2.56. Bednarek tops the Tigers with 68 blocks and Flynn follows with 40.
