Memphis Drops Match to East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Memphis ended its win streak, falling 3-0 to East Carolina in the first match of the weekend series. The Tigers (8-14, 4-6 AAC) struggled to find success at the net, posting a .185 clip along with double digit service errors.

ECU 3, Memphis 0
- ECU got off to a quick start, going on a 9-3 run early in the first set forcing a Memphis timeout. The Pirates were aided by kills from Angeles Alderete and attacking errors from the Tigers.
- Memphis began closing the gap midway through the first set with a 5-2 run. The Tigers put together a strong showing at the net, tallying a block from Autumn Flynn and Jordan Heatherly, along with forcing Pirate errors. ECU pushed through the remainder of the first set, taking it 25-18.
- The Tigers and Pirates opened set two trading points back and forth, neither team allowing a run. Memphis took the lead into the media timeout after putting together a 4-0 run with kills from Tabytha Toelke and a service ace from Mackenzie Leach.
- ECU came out of the timeout on a 6-1 run, forcing two Memphis timeouts. The Pirates found momentum as the Tigers committed multiple attacking errors.
- Memphis started to climb back with kills from Madison Rice-Locket and Flynn along with a solo block from Flynn before forcing an ECU timeout late in set two. The Tigers would go on a 4-0 run before dropping the set 25-23.
- Memphis took an early lead in set three capitalizing off attacking errors from ECU and kills from Rice-Locket and Toelke, forcing a Pirate timeout.
- Reilly Briggs, Rice-Locket and Toelke helped the Tigers maintain the lead midway through set three, putting together big hits at the net.
- The Pirates took the lead after going on an 8-1 run, forcing two Tiger timeouts. ECU found success at the net putting down kills and blocks to take back momentum. They would go on to take the set 25-20.
Notables
- Heatherly recorded her season high hitting percentage (on 10+ attempts) with a .500 clip.
- Toelke and Rice-Locket led the Tigers with nine kills apiece, followed by Heatherly with eight.
- Three Tigers tallied double digit digs: Abigail Schlueter (13), Toelke (12) and Rylee Busse (10).
