MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team lost 7-3 on Saturday to Indiana State at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field. The Sycamores have taken the first two games in the series ahead of tomorrow's 1 p.m. finale.
Memphis dropped its fifth-straight game and moved to 8-7 on the season while the Sycamores improved to 6-8 and have now won four-straight games.
"I thought we had more quality at-bats today than we did last night and made some adjustments offensively and became tougher outs," head coach Kerrick Jackson said. "That four spot in the second inning is ultimately what costed us, we just couldn't come back from that and made some mistakes on the bases. Tomorrow is a pride game. It's about can you get it done when you need to get it done and avoid a sweep."
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Tigers got out to an early 1-0 lead after Anthony Hansen recorded an RBI groundout that scored Cameron Benson.
• An RBI single in the second inning by the Sycamores followed by a three-run homerun to left field by Randal Diaz that made the score 4-1, ISU.
• Will Spears singled back up the middle and drove in Tyler Heckert to make the score 4-2.
• ISU tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the third to go up 6-2.
• The Sycamores scored their seventh run of the day on a sac-fly off the bat of Seth Gergely in the fifth inning to grow the lead to 7-2.
• Hansen knocked in his second run of the day in the bottom of the fifth when he lined one back up the middle to bring in Brayland Skinner. That was the final run of the day for the Tigers, who left eight runners on base in the game.
