Tigers Drop the Final Day of the Tiger Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis softball team dropped their last two games of the Tiger Classic. The Tigers (4-19) fell 14-0 to Pitt before ending the day with an 11-3 loss to North Alabama.
"Although we didn't get a win in the column, I feel like we shot ourselves in the foot a bit, but we made some minor adjustments." Said head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro. "Softball is a game of adjustments and we need to learn to make quicker ones on both sides of the ball."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Memphis kept the Panthers scoreless in the first two innings, including a strikeout by Mikayla Hoschak.
- Pitt struck first with Whaley scoring a two-run homerun to deep center field in the top of the third. The Panthers continued their run with a homerun on their next at-bat to left center. Pitt added three more runs going into the bottom of the third.
- The Panthers opened the top of the fourth inning with their third homerun of the game as Drapola hit the ball to left field to extend the lead. Ramirez hit up the middle for a 2 RBI single adding to the Panther lead.
- The Panthers advanced home as Hernandez drew a walk before Drapola hit a four-run homerun in her second at-bat of the inning.
- The Tigers locked down on defense in the top of the fifth inning when Fuerst was caught stealing third as Meagan Chism threw to Presley Morris, tagging her out.
- Kendall Lee, the only Tiger to reach base, drew a full-count walk in the bottom of the fifth before being thrown out at second on a fielder's choice.
NOTABLES
- Hoschak got the start going 2.1 innings and recorded two strikeouts before Rylee Dugar came in as relief in the top of the third inning. Dugar went 0.2 innings.
- Kelsey Adams made an appearance before Hoschak reentered the game. Hoschak finished the game going for 2.0 innings and recording two more strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Memphis struck first earning its first run of the day as Lee hit a one-run single up the middle sending Sam Ibison home in the bottom of the first inning.
- North Alabama got on the board in the top of the second inning, Paterson hit a one-run double to deep center field. The Lions added two more runs to their stat line off two throwing errors from the Tigers in the inning.
- The Tigers had bases loaded in the bottom of the second but were unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunity.
- The Lions continued their scoring run as Kirby hit a two-run homerun to left field in the top of the third inning. North Alabama would add two more runs to the board, unearned, on two errors from Memphis.
- Kirby hit her second homerun of the game for North Alabama, bringing in Burback and Land with her hit to center field in the top of the fourth inning.
- Memphis cut the lead by two as Taylor Smrt hit a two-run single to center field bringing in E'mya Munford and Emma Ponder in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- The Lions added another run in the top of the fifth as Kirby hit a one-run single down the left field line.
- Five Tigers got a hit in the game, Madison Berner, Munford, Ponder Smrt and Lee.
- Lee went 1-for-3 with one RBI, recording her ninth on the season. Smrt also recorded two RBIs and went 1-for-3.
- Hallie Siems got the start going 5.0 innings and recording four strikeouts.
- The Tigers will go host Indiana and Northwestern State next weekend, March 17-18, with the first game ,, Friday, against Northwestern State at 4:30 p.m.
