Memphis Closes Out Weekend in Loss to Miami (OH)

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis volleyball closes out its opening weekend with a 3-0 loss to Miami (OH) on Saturday afternoon. Although the Tigers competed through the match, their .141 hitting percentage proved to be a struggle for the home team.
"Overall a good learning and growing weekend for our squad. We absolutely love the energy our fans brought this weekend to the Finch." head coach Sean Burdette remarked. "We get a few things to work on before we head out on the road to Toledo this weekend but excited to continue to build our brand."

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Memphis started off strong scoring the first point of the match on a kill from Alexis Lewis.
• Miami created slight lead into the middle of set one, finding opening on the court. Memphis began closing the gap with a momentum slowing block from Reilly Briggs and Eleftheria Baxa.
• The RedHawks maintained their lead taking set one 25-17.
• Miami took a quick lead in the second set, capitalizing off of Memphis attacking errors. Memphis started to close the gap with a service error from Miami and kill from Hannah Jones.
• The RedHawks' lead continued to climb as Ellie Hanson recorded back-to-back service aces, making the score 17-10. The Tigers started a 5-2 run, but were unable to climb out, Miami took the set 25-19.
• Memphis started off set three hot, going on a 7-2 run that included an Abigail Schlueter ace, Clara Bednarek over pass kill and resulted in a Miami timeout.
• Miami came back to take the lead at 22-18, late in the third set going on an 7-0 run. Memphis would stop the run, with kills from Briggs and Jones and an ace from Mackenzie Leach. The RedHawks would go on to win the match, 25-21.
NOTABLES
• Bednarek led the Tigers with seven kills, Jones and Briggs following closely with six a piece. Bednarek and Briggs also hit over .300, leading the team hitting percentage.
• Abigail Schlueter led the Tigers with 12 digs in the match.
• Memphis ended the match with seven aces: Leach (2), Robertson (1), Heatherly (1), Bednarek (1), Schlueter (1) and Busse (1).
