No. 10 Memphis Drops Season Opener to No. 13 Nebraska

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 10-ranked University of Memphis rifle team fell at home to No. 13 Nebraska, 4709-4687, to open the season on Saturday morning at R.F. Fogelman Rifle Range. The Tigers won air rile, 2368-2364, but got edged out by the Cornhuskers (1-0) in smallbore, 2345-2319.
"I'm proud of the way the team fought through today's match," head coach Morgan Phillips said. "They handled themselves really well and didn't give up when it got hard. One big highlight was Gabriela's 595 in air rifle, which was the high score of the match.
"There were a lot of really great parts for everyone that we can continue to build on over the next couple of weeks before we face West Virginia and Navy. We are looking forward to seeing what we can do with another couple weeks of practice under our belts."

- Junior Gabriela Zych led the way for the Tigers on Saturday, finishing second overall with an aggregate score of 1177. Zych posted team-best totals in both relays, including a match-high 595 in air rifle and a 582 in smallbore.
- Junior Sophie Cruz was second for Memphis, and fourth overall, with an aggregate of 1172. She carded the third-best totals for the Tigers in smallbore (580) and air rifle (592).
- Sophomore Kenlee Ewton finished seventh overall with an 1171 aggregate. After posting a 578 in smallbore, Ewton recorded the second-best total for the Tigers in air rile with a 593.
