BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Memphis track and field started their 2024-25 season on a solid note, winning five events at the BSC Icebreaker on Friday at Birmingham CrossPlex.
The Tigers had the second-most event victories of any school (Ole Miss led with 10). Jadaja Baxter led the way with wins in the long jump and 200 meters, the eighth and ninth wins of her four-year career.
"I am really, really pleased with the progress of the women's sprints and hurdles group," said head coach Kevin Robinson. "Some very solid opening performances there."
Gizel Clayton picked up a victory and a PR in the 60 meter hurdles, with Ivory Davis finishing just behind her in second. Freshmen Emma Holmes and Kaseiana Meriweather excelled in their collegiate debuts, winning the 400 meters and the 60 meters, respectively.
In addition to five victories, the Tigers recorded 10 top-three finishes. Caleb Barrett (60 meters), Dalen Barrett (60 meters) and Cedric Johnson (60 meter hurdles) each picked up PRs in addition to Clayton.
