Memphis Falls in Slug Fest at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped its first game against Charlotte 7-12, in a slug fest on Friday night at Sue M. Daughtridge Field. The Tigers (3-20, 0-4 AAC) tied their season high seven runs in the matchup.
The Tigers battled throughout the game putting together a strong showing at the plate, scoring six of their seven runs in the final three innings. Three Tigers came away with multiple runs- Kelsie Adams, Arianna Cox-Cole and Taniyah Brown. Memphis also had two players record multiple RBI- Kennedy Semien and McKaylee Polk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Charlotte got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning as Lexi Winters hit a sacrifice fly shallow in right field bringing in Abigail Knight. The 49ers added to their lead as Cori Hoffler fired off a two-RBI homer over the left field wall.
• Presley Morris opened the hitting up for Memphis, singling up the middle in the top of the second inning. Taniyah Brown pushed Morris into scoring position with a stand up double to the left field wall. The Tigers were left stranded closing out the top of the frame.
• Memphis got on the board in the top of the third frame as Semien hit into an error by second base, allowing Adams in for the run to cut the lead by one.
• The Tigers held the bottom of the third inning scoreless with two 49er runners on in scoring position as Olivia Williams grounded out to third base to record Charlotte's third out.
• Charlotte put up another run as Ella Chancey sent a solo shot high over the center field wall in the bottom of the fourth frame. Arianna Rodi added a two-run homerun over the right center for the 49ers.
• Semien loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fifth inning off a single up the middle. Adams reached home on a wild pitch, adding another run to the Memphis stat line. The Tigers put up another run as Cox-Cole reached home on an error by first base, cutting the lead in half.
• The 49ers put up two more runs as Williams and Chancey reached home on a throwing error from second base in the bottom of the fifth frame. Rodi drew a bases-loaded walk allowing London Dirks to add to the Charlotte lead.
• Drue Thomas recorded her first stand up double of the season firing a shot to the center field wall pushing Taniyah Brown into scoring position in the top of the sixth frame. The Tigers drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks adding two runs to the stat line. Polk added an RBI single to left field allowing Cox-Cole to reach home.
• Charlotte increased its lead by two runs off a fielding error by second base in the bottom of the sixth inning.
• Memphis added one more run in the top of the seventh inning as Semien singled through left center allowing Taniyah Brown to reach home.

• Rylee Dugar got the start in the circle for the Tigers, going 3.2 innings and recording three strikeouts. Taniyah Brown came in as relief in the top of the fourth inning putting in 0.2 innings of work. Abigail Morgan entered in the bottom of the fifth inning. Morgan went 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.
