Memphis Drops Game Two at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped its second game against Charlotte, 0-9, Saturday afternoon at Sue M. Daughtridge Field.
The Tigers (3-21, 0-5 American Athletic Conference) fought with leadoff base knocks in the second and third but were unable to get any runs across.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Charlotte got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as Lexi Winters reached home on a throwing error. The 49ers added to their lead with an RBI double from Cori Hoffler down the left field line, then tacked on two more on a ground out and a single to take a 4-0 lead.
• Mckaylee Polk recorded the first hit of the game for Memphis, singling into left field to start the second frame. Polk was late tagged out a second on a Charlotte a double play.
• Taniyah Brown fired a shot to the center field wall for a leadoff double to open the top of the third. Drue Thomas advanced Taniyah Brown to third with a sacrifice bunt, however, she would be left stranded after back-to-back strikeouts to close the frame.
• In the bottom of the fourth, Kamiyah Brown threw out Charlotte's Ella Chancey as she tried to steal second. The 49ers went on to score two more in the stanza to extend their lead to 6-0.
• Charlotte added its final three runs in the bottom of the fifth to close out the game. Teagan Ritchie stole home before Chancey followed with a walk-off 2-run homer to center.
NOTABLES
• Two Tigers recorded hits as Polke singled in the second and Taniyah Brown doubled in the third.
• Taniyah Brown got the start in the circle, going 4.1 innings with one strikeout. Abigail Morgan came in on relief in the bottom of the fifth and faced one batter before the close of the game.
