Memphis Falls in Series Finale to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped its final game to Charlotte 6-0 at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers (3-22, 0-6 AAC) fought hard through the game, allowing only one run in the final three innings of play. Arianna Cox-Cole put together a good game for the Tigers, going 3-for-4 at the plate and advancing the runner in her final at-bat in the top of the seventh inning.
Charlotte 6, Memphis 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Memphis opened the game with a hit as Cox-Cole singled through left field in the top of the first inning. Cox-Cole would be thrown out on a fielder's choice allowing Kennedy Semien to reach first. Semien would be left stranded at first to close the top of the frame.
• Charlotte got on the board first as Lexi Winters doubled to left center allowing Arianna Rodi in for the score in the bottom of the first inning.
• The 49ers doubled their lead as Abigail Knight doubled to the center field wall bringing in Ella Chancey in the bottom of the second frame.
• Cox-Cole tallied her second hit of the game as she singled shallow to right field in the top of the third inning. The Tigers were unable to capitalize on the base runner.
• Charlotte put up another run in the bottom of the third frame as Chancey doubled to the left center wall sending in Cori Hoffler for the score. Teagan Ritchie added a double of her own to the 49er stat line allowing Chancey to reach home. Charlotte added one more run before closing the frame.
• Drue Thomas recorded her first hit of the game, the Tigers third, as she singled through right field in the top of the fifth inning. Khamiyah Brown added a hit of her own, followed by Cox-Cole with her third hit to load the bases. Memphis would leave the base runners stranded to end the top of the frame.
• The 49ers continued to add to their lead as Ritchie stole second allowing Chancey to steal home in the bottom of the fifth inning.
• McKaylee Polk got on base for the Tigers on a fielding error by the short stop in the top of the fifth frame. Taniyah Brown joined her teammate on base as she singled to left field. Both Tigers were left on base to close the top of the inning.
• Thomas drew a walk on five pitches to open the top of the seventh inning followed by Kelsie Adams' sacrifice bunt pushing Thomas to second base. Thomas would be left stranded in scoring position to end the game.
NOTABLES
• Four Tigers recorded hits: Cox-Cole (3), Taniyah Brown, Khamiyah Brown and Thomas.
• Cox-Cole went 3-for-4 on the day, singling twice to left field and once to right field.
• Rylee Dugar got the start in the circle, going 2.2 innings with one strikeout. Abigail Morgan came in as relief in the bottom of the third inning. Morgan put together 3.1 innings of work while recording one strikeout.
