RICHMOND, Va. – The No. 54 University of Memphis women's tennis team finished off a perfect weekend with a 4-3 victory over No. 64 Florida Atlantic Saturday evening at the Thalhimer Tennis Center in Richmond, Virginia.
The win improved the Tigers to 12-6 on the year, while the Owls fell to 11-5.
"It was another tough opponent today and we were able to fight through and get the win," Memphis head coach Hayden Perez said. "We want to be playing our best tennis as we head into April and we are starting to do that.
"I am proud of the effort this weekend, it's fun to watch this team compete hard."
Memphis battled in doubles, splitting on the first two courts before Alice Amendola and Miriam Grosmann earned the clinch point from court three with a 7-5 victory. Camila Soares and Monique Woog got the match started with a 6-2 win on court two.
In singles action, Emily Meyer pushed the Tigers in front 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 demolition from the fourth position. The Owls battled back, however, and grabbed wins at the top two lines.
Woog put Memphis back in front on court three with a thriller, winning 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. Florida Atlantic once again evened the match with a sweep at the sixth position.
Amendola finished off the Owls on court five in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-2) to clinch the third-straight victory for the Tigers.
