Tigers Fall in Saturday Matinee to Pirates

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team fell in the Saturday matinee to East Carolina 6-0 in the American Athletic Conference series at Tiger Softball Complex.
The Tigers (6-39, 1-22 AAC) kept it close through the first four innings, giving up one hit, before allowing the Pirates (35-16, 11-12 AAC) to take the lead in the bottom half of the game.
East Carolina 6, Memphis 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
• East Carolina reached first on an error by the shortstop in the top of the third inning before Memphis turned a double play as Kennedy Semien tossed the ball to Preseley Morris who then connected to with Zoe Adebayo to close out the frame.
• Adebayo recorded the Tigers' first hit of the game singling up the middle in the bottom of the fourth, however Memphis was unable to capitalize on the baserunner.
• The Pirates got on the board first as Kanisha Anderson hit a two-out RBI single to left field bringing in Logan Sutton for the run in the top of the fifth.
• Khamiyah Brown sent a stand up double to the left field wall in the bottom of the fifth frame giving Memphis some momentum. The Tigers were unable to add a run in the inning.
• East Carolina continued to push the lead putting up three runs in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 4-0.
• The Pirates extended their advantage by adding two more runs in the top of the seventh frame.
NOTABLES
• Four Tigers recorded hits in the game: Marley Maness, Khamiyah Brown, Adebayo, Semien.
• Khamiyah Brown went 1-for-1 with a double in the game.
• Taniyah Brown got the start in the circle going 6.2 innings while recording two strikeouts against the Pirates. Abigail Morgan entered in relief going 0.1 inning.

• The Tigers will close out their season at home against East Carolina Sunday at Tiger Softball Complex for Senior Day. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
