Memphis Falls to East Carolina on Senior Day

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped its American Athletic Conference series finale to East Carolina, 8-6, on Senior Day at Tiger Softball Complex.
The Tigers (6-40, 1-23 AAC) took a late lead, putting up three runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to take a 6-3 lead, before giving up five runs in the top of the seventh frame. Arianna Cox-Cole, Aaliyah Dixon and Kennedy Semien each recorded two runs apiece for the Tigers in the outing.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• East Carolina got on the board first as Logan Sutton sent a one-out RBI single to right field driving in Emma Jackson in the top of the first.
• Memphis recorded back-to-back singles in the bottom of the third from Dixon and Semien. Both runners were left stranded to close the inning.
• The Pirates doubled their lead in the top of the fourth reaching on a groundout to second base.
• The Tigers cut the lead in half as Cox-Cole reached on an error by the first baseman in the bottom of the fifth inning. Khamiyah Brown tied the game with an RBI single down the left field line. Memphis took the lead as McKaylee Polk drew a bases-loaded walk.
• East Carolina tied things back up in the top of the sixth inning on an error.
• Zoe Adebayo hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the sixth frame putting the Tigers back in front as Cox-Cole scored. Memphis added to its advantage when Drue Thomas fired off a two-run single down the left field line to extend the score to 6-3.
• The Pirates took the lead back in the top of the seventh. They hit a leadoff homer to left field and later followed with back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to tie the game. East Carolina put up its final runs on a 2-RBI single off the bat of Kanisha Anderson.

• Seven Tigers recorded hits in the game: Dixon (3), Semien (2), Cox-Cole (2), Adebayo, Thomas, Brown and Polk.
• Memphis tallied six runs against East Carolina - Dixon (2), Semien (2) and Cox-Cole (2).
• Five Tigers recorded an RBI: Thomas (2), Semien, Adebayo, Brown and Polk.
• Dixon went 3-for-5 with two runs in the matchup along with Cox-Cole going 2-for-4 with two runs.
• Rylee Dugar got the start in the circle going six innings while recording two strikeouts against the Pirates.
• Abigail Morgan entered in relief at the top of the seventh tallying one strikeout.
