Tigers Drop 4-3 Shootout in Season Finale Against South Florida

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis (4-8-3, 3-5-0 American) men's soccer team came back from a two-goal deficit but conceded in the final minute to drop its season finale against South Florida (9-2-5, 5-2-1 American) by a score of 4-3.   
 
With the match level after the first half, a barrage of five goals in the final 45 minutes resulted in a victory for the Bulls.

- 2-7' – Memphis came out on the offensive early with five shots in the opening seven minutes, with two on goal and two hitting the posts.
 - 10' – A counterattack by the Bulls resulted in a goal by Brandon Nyagurungo scoring from the wing.
 - 39' – Memphis drew the match level as Saad Chaouki found Eben McIntyre open in the left side of the box for the game-tying goal.
 - 67' – Another breakout pass by South Florida, this time off the foot of Tyler Richardson, found Nyagurungo again for his second goal of the match.
 - 69' – Shortly after, Asher Jones was left unmarked on the left wing and scored off a pass from Nyagurungo.
 - 79' – Chasing a two-goal deficit, Anthony DiFalco whipped a cross into the box, with South Florida's Mathis Haugen heading the ball into the far corner for an own goal.
 - 82' – Memphis earned a penalty after South Florida's Marcellus McCoy brought Luciano Galizzi down in the box. Saad Chaouki stepped up to the spot and beat the opposing goalkeeper with a strike down the middle.
 - 90' – With exactly a minute remaining in play, South Florida's Pedro Faife found Fabio Bozesan unmarked at the edge of the box, and Bozesan scored with his shot going in off the crossbar.
 
- Memphis fails to make the postseason due to not finishing within the top six spots in the American Conference standings.
 - The Tigers recorded season highs in shots and shots on goal in the loss, finishing with 24 and 10, respectively.
	
- The 24 shots were the most in a match by Memphis since also recording 24 in a 4-0 victory over Belmont on Sept. 2, 2016.
 
 - Tonight's match set season opponent highs in goals and saves, allowing four and eight, respectively.
	
- The eight saves were the most by a Memphis opponent since the 2022 season when both Green Bay and SIUE had eight saves against the Tigers.
 
 - Saad Chaouki finishes the season as Memphis' leading goal scorer with his sixth goal of the 2025 season in the loss.
	
- He also is Memphis' leader in points, finishing with 13 on six goals and one assist with the assist coming in tonight's match.
 
 - Eben McIntyre scored his third goal of the season in the loss, finishing the year with 11 points, which ranks second on the team.
 - Goalkeeper Filip Sabatti recorded four saves in the loss and finishes his senior season with a 4-6-2 record.
 - Seven Tigers (Filip Sabatti, Dino Stavros, Abdallah Traore, Miller Lashlee, Samuel Mutiri, Eben McIntyre, Saad Chaouki) logged a full 90 minutes played in the loss.  
	
- It was the first time this season that Lashlee played every minute of a match.
 - It was the second match in a row where at least seven Tigers played a full 90 minutes.
 
 - Five cards were assessed to players during the course of the match.
	
- For South Florida, Mathis Haugen, Jahiem Wickham and Yanis Lasri were assessed yellow cards.
 - Aidan Antcliff and Dino Stavros were issued yellow cards for the Tigers.
