Mar 10, 2025 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set for a midweek game in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Tuesday night vs. Arkansas State at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
Tuesday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and Jeff Brightwell will have an audio stream live on GoTigersGo.com. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Memphis is coming off a 2-2 week that included an eight-inning midweek win over Little Rock, run-ruling the Trojans 13-3 on March 5. A nine-run fourth inning and a trio of home runs from Jonah Sutton, James Smith IV and Cade Tucker pushed Memphis to the win.
The Tigers dropped their first three-game series of the season to Southeastern Louisiana over the weekend after winning their first three. After the Lions (12-3, 3-0 SLC) took game one on Friday night, the Tigers (9-6) walked off winners on CJ Willis' two-run single in extra innings on Saturday to even the series. A six-run third inning for the Lions propelled them to the series victory on Sunday.
Tuesday's game vs. the Red Wolves will be the 104th all-time meeting between the two programs with Memphis leading the all-time series, 68-35, including wins in nine of the previous 11 contests. The Tigers and Red Wolves split the season series last season at one game apiece, as the Tigers won 13-7 in Memphis before falling 7-4 in Jonesboro.
A-State (6-9) is coming off a three-game home weekend sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff after being swept by Jacksonville State on the road the weekend prior.
The Red Wolves are led offensively by Kaden Amundson (.316 AVG. / 8 RBI) and Daedrick Cail (.313 AVG. / 1 HR / 11 RBI).
The Tigers will start LHP Isaac Lucas (1-0, 5.87 ERA) on the mound Tuesday night and the Red Wolves will counter with RHP Jelle van der Lelie (0-1, 3.00 ERA).
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 17 through the season's first 15 games and rank third nationally in that category and lead The American.
The Memphis pitching staff has been another highlight to the start of the season, combining for a 4.08 ERA (132.1 IP) to rank third in The American and 62nd nationally. The Tiger bullpen has accounted for 68.1 of those innings and has given up just 24 earned runs for a bullpen ERA of 3.16.
Extra-base hits have been aplenty to begin the year as the Tigers have already hit for 30 doubles (No. 94 NCAA, No. 5 AAC) and four triples (No. 70 NCAA, No. 4 AAC). Memphis has 106 total hits on the season with 46 of them (43%), going for extra bases.
