MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis (16-25, 4-12 AAC) softball lost in the opening game of its series against Charlotte (21-22, 9-7 AAC) by a score of 9-2, Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first inning for both sides, Charlotte took the lead in the top of the second inning before Memphis gained the lead in the bottom half of the frame.
- Kari Shedrick hit a home run to lead off Charlotte's second at-bats of the game.
- In the bottom half of the inning, Kennedy Semien reached and scored on two separate defensive errors, coming across on a Drue Thomas single.
- Thomas later scored on a single up the middle by Presley Morris.
Charlotte regained the lead with a two-run home run off the bat of London Dirks in the third inning.
Two errors by the Memphis defense allowed the bases to become loaded, with Lilian Berry recording an RBI groundout.
Charlotte extended its lead with three runs in the fifth inning.
- A solo home run by Jenna Lord began the scoring for the 49ers.
- Three consecutive doubles by Kari Shedrick, Jaylah Jarrell and Brelyn O'Hearn resulted in two more runs for Charlotte.
The 49ers added two runs in the sixth inning.
- After London Dirks doubled to left center, Teagan Ritchie brought her home with a single to left field.
- Ritchie came around to score after stealing second, eventually scoring on a double by Kari Shedrick.
Memphis loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but a double play on a fielder's choice and a groundout ended the game.

NOTABLES

Memphis only brought three batters to the plate in four straight innings, from the third inning to the sixth.
Lyrical Bennett falls to 5-7 after going 4.2 innings, snapping a streak of three consecutive complete games.
Jericho Tate threw the final 2.1 innings, striking out four batters.
Kennedy Semien finished with one hit and one run scored in the contest.
Aubrey Williams made her second start as a catcher, recording a sacrifice bunt and reaching on a hit-by-pitch.
Arianna Cox-Cole had one hit in tonight's matchup, extending her hit streak to three games.
Neely Taylor started in her 41st game of the season and still stands as the only Tiger to have started every contest.
Presley Morris recorded her first hit and RBI of the season in her fourth start of the year.
Drue Thomas was the lone Tiger with multiple hits.
- She has recorded a hit in eight of her last 10 games, with multiple hits in her last two games played.
Marley Maness entered as a pinch hitter and legged out an infield single.
Shelby Durbin made her first appearance in the outfield for Memphis this season after entering as a defensive substitution.
