Memphis Crowned American Athletic Conference Champions Following 4-2 Win Over Tulsa

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's tennis team raised the American Athletic Conference trophy once again as it defeated 4^th-seeded Tulsa 4-2 in the championship match Sunday afternoon.

Memphis, who was the six-seed for the tournament, is the lowest seeded team to be crowned the American women's tennis championship since South Florida won in 2017 as the seven-seed.

The Tigers got out to a fast start, claiming the doubles point after Sofia Mykhailets/Alyssa Richter and Alice Amendola/Clemence Thouard collected 6-3 and 6-2 wins, respectively.

Moeller, who was named as the Most Outstanding Player for the tournament, picked up Memphis' second point of the match with a 6-3, 6-4 advantage over 86^th-ranked Maria Berlanga. Tulsa came back to take the two and three spots before Clemence Thouard, who fought back after being down 5-0 in the first set, to take court six.

Emily Meyer put the match to bed when she battled for a 7-5, 7-5 victory on court four to give Memphis the 4-2 win.

This is the second conference title for the Tigers in the last four years (2022).

With the win, Memphis claims an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. They find out where they will play on Monday, April 28 during the selection show on NCAA.com.
