MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set to host No. 6 Ole Miss on Tuesday night at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field for the second matchup between the Tigers and Rebels this season. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Jeff Brightwell and Greg Gaston Sr. on the call with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
Fans attending are encouraged to wear blue. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a blue Memphis-branded t-shirt, sponsored by Pepsi. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early as free parking lots will fill up quickly. As a reminder for fans, cars parked on streets will be towed.
FedExPark will play host to the 161stall-time meeting between the two programs. The Rebels defeated the Tigers, 7-5, in Oxford, Mississippi, earlier this season back on March 25.
Memphis (12-19, 1-8 AAC) dropped its American Athletic Conference series to South Florida (19-10, 7-2 AAC) over the weekend but salvaged a 13-8 come-from-behind win over the Bulls in Sunday's finale behind 10-unanswered runs.
Sixth-ranked Ole Miss (24-7, 8-4 SEC) is coming off a series win over Kentucky in Lexington over the weekend and has now won three of its first four SEC weekend series.
The Tigers will roll out RHP Caden Robinson (1-2, 6.12 ERA) on Tuesday night for his eighth start of the season. The No. 6 Rebels will counter with lefty Gunnar Dennis (1-1, 5.25 ERA), who will be making his third start and ninth appearance overall on the mound.
It will be a rematch of the starting pitching matchup from the first game between the two teams this season. Robinson threw three innings of one-run ball, striking out five and allowing just one hit while Dennis went three innings and allowed two runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts.
The Rebels are led offensively by Mitchell Sanford (.320 AVG. / 9 HR / 31 RBI / 10 SB), Ryan Moerman (.281 AVG. / 9 HR / 32 RBI) and Luke Hill (.353 AVG. / 6 HR / 23 RBI). Ole Miss ranks eighth in the NCAA in total home runs, hitting 62 long balls so far this season. They are No. 7 in the nation in home runs per game, averaging 2.00 home runs per game.
Tiger catcher Jonah Sutton is tied for second nationally in runners thrown out from behind the plate (15) and is now 15-of-32 (47%) from behind the dish. As a team, Memphis has thrown out 50 percent of runners stealing on the season (17-of-34) as Justin Fogel is 2-for-2 on the year.
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 26 through the season's first 31 games and rank 33rd nationally in that category.
The Memphis pitching staff has been another highlight through the first half of the season, combining for a 4.91 ERA (269.2 IP) to rank fourth in The American and 73rd nationally. The Tiger bullpen has accounted for 140.2 of those innings and has given up 73 earned runs for a bullpen ERA of 4.67.
