Sep 11, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis (5-2) outlasted Chattanooga (2-5) in four sets inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Thursday evening.
Two Tigers set career highs as Amanda Hardt recorded the most kills (31) and points (33) in a match by any player in the American Conference this year, and setter Maddy Bach had the most assists (58) of any American Conference setter this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening set was a battle, with Memphis and Chattanooga deadlocked 13 times — the Tigers' most ties in a set since the season opener against USC Upstate. The Mocs finally broke through as Sydney Jackwin and Laila N'Diaye delivered back-to-back kills to secure a 26-24 victory.
Memphis opened the second set with a 5-2 run before Chattanooga rallied to tie the frame at 14. The teams traded points down the stretch with 12 ties in total. The Tigers pulled away behind kills from Amanda Hardt, Zaniah Hoskins and Janyah Henderson to take the set, 30-28.
The third set featured 12 ties and eight lead changes as both teams continued to battle. Memphis leaned on Amanda Hardt and Brianna Washington, while the Mocs kept pace with Jackwin and Kendyl MacAskill. Chattanooga pulled ahead late, 23-22, but Memphis responded with kills from Hardt and Washington. A service ace from Janyah Henderson gave the Tigers set point, and after fighting off two set-point opportunities by the Mocs, Memphis closed it out 27-25 on consecutive kills from Amanda Hardt and Za'Niya Boyles.
Chattanooga opened the fourth set strong with two early service aces from Jackwin for a 4-2 lead. Memphis countered with kills from Hardt and Henderson before surging ahead, 11-7, on Hardt's ace and a pair of kills. The Mocs fought back behind Kynli Kirkendoll and Bailey Burgess to earn a set point at 24-23. Memphis answered with a kill from Zaniah Hoskins and an ace from Janyah Henderson to retake the advantage. Amanda Hardt delivered again, and the Tigers closed the match, 27-25, after a Chattanooga attack error.
