Memphis Defeats Lamar in the Second Day of Carrie Yerty Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis (6-2) earned a four-set victory over Lamar (4-6) Friday night in Elma Roane Fieldhouse in the Tigers' second match of the Carrie Yerty Classic

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lamar took advantage of late service errors to edge Memphis in the opening frame, 25-23. The set was tightly contested throughout, with neither side leading by more than three points. Memphis tied the score at 23-23 on a kill from Amanda Hardt, but back-to-back errors gave the Cardinals the narrow win.
Memphis controlled the second set, using a balanced attack from Amanda Hardt, Zaniah Hoskins and Janyah Henderson to build momentum before closing out a 25-18 win. Setter Madelyn Bach guided the offense with multiple assists during a 10-3 run that sealed the frame for the Tigers.
Lamar jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the third, but Memphis rallied to tie it and take control on the way to a 25-23 victory. The Cardinals stayed close behind kills from Sydnee Griffen and Emily Moon, but the Tigers pulled away behind kills from Hardt, Henderson and Za'Niya Boyles.
Memphis dominated the fourth set, racing out to a 16-5 lead and never looking back. A late push from Lamar wasn't enough as the Tigers closed the match with a 25-14 win.

- This marks the best start in at home since 2019 when the Tigers went 5-0 to start the home schedule.
- Amanda Hardt and Janyah Henderson led the offense with 27 and 13 kills respectfully.
- This marks third time this season that Hardt had at least 20 kills in a match.
- Amanda Hardt also had 28.5 points which is the third time this season she had 20 plus points.
- She entered the day ranking seventh nationally in total points and kills.
- Maddy Bach had her second 40-plus assists game with 47.
- Abigail Schlueter extended her season high in digs with 18.
- Freshman middle blocker Camryn McCollum set a career high in blocks with two.
