CARY, N.C. – Two University of Memphis women's tennis student-athletes have made their way out to North Carolina to compete in the ITS All-American Championships.
Sofiia Mykahailets began play on Saturday in the Pre-Qualifying round where she fell to Krystal Blanch (Wake Forest) 6-2, 6-4. Moving to the consolation bracket, Mykhailets collected a 6-3, 6-3 win over Katsiaryna Tuliakova from Stetson to complete her time.
Leonie Moeller kicked off this morning in the first round of the Qualifying Draw where she defeated Aely Arai (Miami) in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory. She moves on to compete in the second round against Alice Ferlito (Princeton) tomorrow. A time will be released later today.
"Sofiia ran into a great player who played a difficult style. Unfortunately, Sofiia found it tough to find a rhythm but fought hard and came up a little short. Leonie played a great first round match against a very quality player from Miami. Leonie started out strong taking a 6-2 lead, then her opponent raised her level and forced a third set. She kept it together and battled through a hard third set and came out on top. I'm proud of our Tigers as they always compete hard and are showing they belong in this tournament with the best players in the country," associate head coach Ryan Haymond said.
