Tigers Look to Complete Sweep Against UTSA on ESPNU
Feb 28, 2026 | Women's Basketball
SAN ANTONIO – Memphis women's basketball's final road trip of the regular season will be to the Alamo City, taking on UTSA on Sunday, March 1, at 3 p.m.
The game will be broadcast on ESPNU with Brenda VanLengen and Andrea Lloyd on the call. It is the Tigers' only nationally televised game this season; their last game on network TV was Dec. 21, 2024, against Louisville on ESPNU at FedExForum.
Memphis (9-19, 3-12 American) enters March already in postseason mode, needing wins in their final three games of the year to help secure a spot in the 10-team American Conference postseason tournament. They picked up a crucial victory over the second-ranked team in the conference on Wednesday, defeating East Carolina in double overtime, 88-80.
It was a complete team effort at Elma Roane Fieldhouse, with five different Tigers pulling out career-high figures in the victory: Daejah Richmond (seven steals), Tamya Smith (four assists, four steals, three blocks), Amauri Williams (19 points), Cori Allen (seven assists) and Kennedi Alexander (13 rebounds). Their 48.5% shooting was the highest against a Division-I opponent this year.
Sunday will mark perhaps the toughest test of the remaining games this season for Memphis, who will have to win at the Convocation Center where they are currently 0-2 all-time. A point of confidence is the Tigers' 52-40 victory over UTSA in Memphis on January 23. Only one UTSA player reached nine points in what is the lowest offensive output in an American Conference game this year and Memphis' fewest points allowed since 2019.
Though UTSA (12-14, 7-8 American) appears secure in the fight for a postseason berth, there should be no shortage of effort from the Roadrunners, who are looking to snap a three-game losing streak after falling to rivals North Texas, 87-63, on Tuesday. Playing their first home game in 15 days, they are very much in the mix for the No. 6 spot which will receive a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
Head coach Karen Aston is in her fifth season in San Antonio and has over 350 wins as a head coach across stops at Texas, North Texas and Charlotte. Last season, they went 26-5, including 13-0 at home, winning the regular season conference championship. Their home record this season is 7-4 compared to 4-9 on the road.
It will be a clash of styles on Sunday afternoon, with Memphis leading the conference in pace while UTSA ranks last. The Roadrunners are third in the conference in rebounding margin per game (+3.3), led by veterans Cheyenne Rowe and Idara Udo who average 8.7 and 7.0, respectively. Rowe also leads the team in scoring with 14.2 points per night, shooting nearly 50% inside the arc.
