Tigers Host Golden Hurricane in Final Conference Series of March
Mar 26, 2026 | Softball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team returns home for its fourth weekend of conference play with a matchup against Tulsa.
Game times will be 5 p.m., 2 p.m. and noon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively, with Tyler Springs on the call for each game on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (10-22, 1-8 American) hopes to continue its hitting success from its doubleheader sweep of Jackson State where the Tigers logged 29 hits through the pair of games.
Ariel Davis broke out of a short slump compared to her early production with a double and a home run against Jackson State. She stands as the team's leader in batting average, hits, runs, doubles, triples, home runs and RBI. Jasmine Mack and Faith Brown have played key roles as run producers around Davis, with Mack's five doubles, two triples and three home runs helping her to 15 RBI on the year and Brown's six doubles and three home runs supporting a 16 RBI total this season.
Memphis' pitching staff continues to be led by a youth movement, with two freshmen and one sophomore tossing 70 percent of the innings so far. Avery Stutts and Taylor Caton have settled down after early struggles, as Stutts' 61.1 innings and 27 strikeouts lead the team, while Caton has 25 strikeouts in just 32 innings of work. Jericho Tate carries the staff's best ERA of 5.81 while striking out 18.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANE
Tulsa (10-20, 2-7 American) is coming off a close loss to an Oklahoma State team after earning a series win over South Florida, highlighted by a 15-0 win in the Saturday game.
Tulsa's offense has a balanced approach with seven different players logging at least five doubles. Faith Russell leads all players with a .317 batting average, but the duo of Claira Skaggs and Amber Turner have combined for 59 hits, 17 doubles, eight home runs and 39 RBI. Skaggs was not available during Memphis' series at Tulsa last season.
In the circle, Maura Moore has played a major factor in keeping the Golden Hurricane in games this season, having struck out 80 batters over 85.1 innings en route to being named American Conference Pitcher of the Week twice, including last week. Brinley Maples and Makenzie Freeman have split duties in a supplemental role with 47.2 and 38 innings pitched, respectively.
