Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team (6-8, 1-2 American) earned a four-set victory over UAB (6-9, 0-3 American) on Wednesday evening inside the Elma Roane Fieldhouse for their first American Conference victory this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Memphis came out hot in the opening frame, using a 6-2 opening surge to take early control. After UAB's Mia Reese stopped the momentum with a kill, a subsequent Blazers service error sparked a four-point run to extend the Tigers' advantage to 10-3. Memphis later closed out the set on a dominant 6-0 run to secure a 25-10 victory.

The second set featured early back-and-forth action before a kill from Paige Mock ignited a 3-0 spurt for an 8-3 Tiger lead. Memphis maintained control by stringing together back-to-back scoring runs to push the margin to 14-5. Although the Blazers responded with three unanswered points following a series of Memphis errors, late kills from Kaylee Parker and Zaniah Hoskins secured the 25-18 win for Memphis.

UAB jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the third frame before Memphis mounted a comeback. Kills from Arianna Mongare sparked momentum, allowing the Tigers to rally and battle to a late lead. However, a late Memphis service error opened the door for a game-ending 3-0 run by the Blazers, giving UAB the third set, 26-24.

The fourth set mirrored the second early on, with both teams trading points. Memphis broke away with a crucial 4-0 run to build an 18-14 cushion. Hoskins provided insurance with a kill to jumpstart a 3-0 stretch for a 21-15 lead. Despite a late UAB effort, two kills from Caitlyn Little and a match-ending block by Mock and Parker sealed the 25-19 set victory and overall match win.
