Tiger Volleyball Loses Heartbreaker Against Ole Miss

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-- - The University of Memphis (5-6) volleyball team dropped the final match of its Graphic Systems Classic , 3-1, in a thriller to the University of Mississippi, Saturday.
The Lady Rebels took game one from the Tigers, but Memphis came out strong in game two, battling until Ole Miss downed the Tigers, 16-14 in game two.
It was all Tigers in game three, with Memphis hitting a game-high .261 while holding Ole Miss to a .128 hitting percentage.
Game four was a game of ebbs and flows, with both teams seizing and losing momentum. Memphis had game point and was trying to force its first five-game match of the season, but attack and service errors lost the Tigers' serve. The Lady Rebels (6-5) were not taking any more chances, and closed the match with a 16-14 win in game four.
Senior Kira Zschau led the Lady Rebels with 21 kills and 19 digs while senior April Harriman led the Tigers with a career-high 29 kills on 73 attempts. Harriman also led the defense with 16 digs in the loss.
Prior to the match, Harriman and Tiger middle hitter Sarah Wengler were named to the all-tournament team. In their Saturday morning match, the two led the Tigers to a 3-0 win over Nicholls State. Harriman had nine kills and 12 digs in the win, with Wengler adding seven and three blocks.
Memphis now prepares to open its Conference USA schedule against Marquette, Friday, and DePaul, Saturday. Both matches will take place in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse and will begin at 7 p.m.
