Tiger Volleyball Falls in Conference Opener

Memphis, Tenn.-- - The University of Memphis (5-7, 0-1) volleyball team fell to 0-1 despite rallying back from an 0-2 deficit.
Marquette came out with all the momentum, hitting .326 and .391 in the first two games, downing the Tigers 15-10 and 15-2.
But after the break between games two and three, the tables turned, with Memphis utilizing some big blocks to win game three, 15-12, and hitting .500 in game four to tie the match up at 2-2 with a 15-7 win.
But the Tigers' first five game match of the year again swung back toward the opposition, with the Golden Eagles stepping up to hit .320 to close the Tigers' conference opener, 15-10.
Memphis was led by senior April Harriman (19 kills), Ginger Garret (13 kills) and Sarah Wengler (11 kills). Wengler added five total blocks, including one solo in the loss.
The Golden Eagles were led by junior Meghan Devine (17 kills) and freshmen Megan Markowski (16 kills) and Amy Lopata (16 kills).
Memphis continues its conference home stand with a 7 p.m. match against DePaul, Saturday.
