Tiger Volleyball Loses to Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS, MO. - The University of Memphis Tiger volleyball team dropped a 3-2 meeting with Saint Louis here Friday evening. Memphis drops to 11-2 on the year, 2-2 in C-USA, with the loss as SLU improves to 4-6 overall, 2-1 in C-USA.
The Billikens opened the match with a 30-17 victory over Memphis in the first game, before the Tigers rallied back with two wins, 30-28, 30-26. SLU defeated Memphis, 30-27, in game four, forcing the fifth game which the Billikns won, 15-13. Memphis had defeated Saint Louis, 3-1, just three days earlier. It was the first win for the Tigers over SLU since the 1994 season as SLU continues to lead the all-time series, 13-10.
Senior Emily Eichmann led Memphis' hitting effort with 22 kills and a .405 hitting mark. Three other Tigers recorded double-digit kills, including sophomore Brittany Barnett who followed Eichmann with 15 kills and senior Ginger Garrett and sophomore Shella Neba who recorded 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Senior Amie Hamilton powered the offense with 60 assists in five games. Hamilton also led the squad in digs with 16.
Freshman Heather Watts and seniorAdrianne Edmonds followed Hamilton defensively with 14 digs apiece, while Garrett also totaled double-digit digs with 11.
The Tigers will travel to Texas next week to face TCU and Houston in league matchups. Memphis will be back at home on Oct. 12 when they host Southern Miss at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
