Memphis, Tenn.-The University of Memphis men's soccer team lost for the first time in 2007 to the Titans from Cal State Fullerton. The Orange County, Calf., team scored two goals to record its third consecutive shutout of the season.
Memphis coach Richie Grant commented on the importance of scoring first.
"It's vital to get that first goal," he said. "It was a tight game. They have a very good team."
"We could have defended the first goal a little better," said Grant. "The team defending on the night was good. We had great shape and great discipline."
The Tigers will catch an MLS match on their off day Saturday and no doubt reflect on areas for improvement before Sunday's match against Cal State Northridge.
Northridge fell to Michigan 2-1 in the early match Friday.
"Sunday we'll have another very tough match," Grant said. "But the attitude in our camp is good. The lads are eager to make up for Friday."
