Victory At No. 2 Singles Gives Ragin' Cajuns 4-3 Victory Against Tigers on Saturday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Tied 3-3 after three doubles matches and five singles matches, Saturday's dual between Louisiana-Lafayette and Memphis came down to No. 2 singles between Jordan Smith and Tomasz Krzyzkowski at the University of Memphis Tennis Courts. Krzyzkowski came up with the second-set tiebreaker win to give the Ragin' Cajuns a close victory over the Tiger netters. Memphis falls to 7-8 on the year with the narrow loss. Krzyzkowski improved his 2010 singles mark to 10-3 with the deciding victory.
Memphis opened the match by winning the doubles point, taking a 1-0 lead over their foes from Louisiana-Lafayette. At No. 1 doubles, the Memphis pair of Jordan Smith and David Henry improved to 10-3 on the year with a victory over Carlin Murray and Yanick Mandl.
The Tigers also got a victory at the No. 3 spot where Charlie Ramsay and Spencer Heflin upended Alexander Rupertsson and Neil Schneider, 8-3.
At No. 2 doubles, Krzyzkowski and Javier Pulgar won a tiebreaker to defeat John Taylor and Michael Janz, 8-7 (8-6). Janz and Taylor are 4-2 at doubles this season.
In singles, the Tigers got victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Michael Gaerthoeffner improved to 10-5 with a win over Robert Voss. At No. 6 singles, Taylor, a junior from Burlington, Ontario, upended Schneider in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
At the No. 1 spot, Ramsay, a senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., lost 6-3, 6-3, to Murray. Ramsay falls to 6-7 on the season.
At No. 3 singles, Henry fell to Pulgar, 6-4, 6-4. Henry is 5-9 in singles on the season.
At the No. 4 spot, Janz, a junior from Lousanne, Switzerland, fell 6-3, 6-4 to Mandel. Janz has a mark of 7-8 on the year.
The Tigers will return to the court with matches on March 23 at Birmingham Southern and March 24 at UAB. The Tigers will face Birmingham Southern at 4 p.m., on Tuesday and UAB at 2 p.m., on Wednesday
