Men's Tennis Has Winning Streak Snapped by Drake, 4-3

Drake University (13-5) snapped a five-match Memphis (7-3) winning streak in a four and a half hour match in the semifinal draw of the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic, Friday.
Memphis took the early lead with doubles wins at No. 1 and 2. The number nine ranked doubles team in the country, David O’Hare and Joe Salisbury, again picked up the afternoon’s first win, 8-4, at No. 1. The team of Cedric De Zutter and Connor Glennon then sealed the doubles point with an 8-5 win at No. 2.
Glennon made it 2-0, Tigers, with a straight set, 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. The Tigers pushed the score to 3-0 thanks to a 7-5, 6-3 victory from Johnny Grimal at No. 4, but Drake put its first point on the board with a three-set win at No. 2 and followed that with three set wins at both No. 5 and 6 to tie the match.
The Tigers held a 5-3 lead in the third set at No. 3 singles, but Drake’s Robin Goodman came back from 5-3 down to win the third set in a tiebreak, sealing the victory for the Bulldogs and sending them in to the championship match.
Memphis will play in the third place match on Saturday at 10 a.m. (PT) against either No. 61 San Diego or No. 28 Harvard.
